in short

  • Your focus history, rooms and rewards are stored on your device. Otto has no accounts.
  • Otto uses Google AdMob for advertising and Google Firebase to help the app run reliably. Both can process device identifiers and usage data.
  • You stay in control of ad tracking and your advertising ID through your device settings, and you can change your mind at any time.

01What this policy covers

This policy is about Otto, the focus app for iPhone, iPad and Android, and this website, which introduces the app. “We” and “us” mean the team that makes Otto. Questions about anything here can go to nexmindltd.support@gmail.com.

02What stays on your device

Otto does not need an account, and we do not run a server that receives your activity in the app. The following is stored locally on your device:

  • your settings and the nickname you choose;
  • focus labels, session history, goals and your journal;
  • shells, pearls, wishes and the items you have collected;
  • room layouts, room notes and Otto’s outfits.

We do not send this information to AdMob or Firebase. Removing Otto deletes its local data according to how your device handles app removal. Copies you exported yourself, and device backups, are managed outside the app.

03Advertising with Google AdMob

Otto uses AdMob, an advertising service from Google, to show ads in the app. AdMob works through the Google Mobile Ads SDK, which runs inside Otto and connects to Google’s servers when an ad is requested. The data is used for advertising, analytics and fraud prevention: to deliver and measure ads, limit how often you see the same ad, prevent abuse and, where you allow it, personalize ads.

According to Google’s disclosures, the SDK can collect:

DataWhat it means
Device identifiersOn iPhone and iPad, the advertising identifier (IDFA) if you allow tracking, or other identifiers limited to the app or developer. On Android, the advertising ID and app set ID.
IP address and coarse locationYour IP address, which may be used to estimate your general location. Not your precise location.
Advertising dataSuch as which ads you have seen.
Product interactionsSuch as app launches, taps and video views.
Performance and diagnosticsSuch as app launch time, hang rate, energy use and crash logs.

Your choices

  • iPhone and iPad. Otto asks through Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt before the advertising identifier can be used. If you decline, you may still see ads, but they will not use that identifier and may be less relevant. Change this any time in iOS Settings, under Privacy & Security, then Tracking.
  • Android. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device’s settings menu, usually under Privacy, then Ads.
  • EEA, UK and Switzerland. Where the law requires it, a consent message from Google’s User Messaging Platform appears before ads load. You can review your choice from the privacy options in Otto’s settings.
  • Your Google controls. You can manage ad personalization in Google’s My Ad Center.

Ads are chosen and served by Google and its partners, not by us. Tapping an ad may take you outside Otto, where the advertiser’s own terms and privacy practices apply. Learn more in how Google uses information from apps that use its services, the Google Mobile Ads SDK disclosures for iOS and Android, and the Google Privacy Policy.

04App services with Google Firebase

Otto includes Firebase, Google’s platform for building and operating apps. We use it to keep Otto reliable and to understand, in general terms, how the app is performing. What Firebase handles depends on the features enabled in the version of Otto you use:

FeatureData it can processHow long
Firebase CoreApp configuration needed to connect Otto to Firebase services.Not used to store your activity
Google Analytics for FirebaseAn app-instance identifier, general app-usage events, device and system details, and approximate location.Under Google’s Analytics retention settings
CrashlyticsCrash traces, an installation UUID and a Firebase installation ID.90 days

For most Firebase services Google acts as a data processor or service provider on our behalf. Google Analytics is provided under its own terms. Google also uses some service data for its own purposes, such as improving its services and meeting legal obligations. Most Firebase services run on Google’s global infrastructure. Read Privacy and Security in Firebase for details.

05Deep Focus and Screen Time

On iPhone and iPad, if you turn on Deep Focus, Apple’s Screen Time frameworks manage your authorization and your choice of apps. Otto stores Apple’s opaque selection tokens locally, in a space shared only with its own extensions, so it can apply and remove restrictions. These tokens do not reveal to us which apps you chose, and we do not receive them. You can change your selection or revoke authorization in the app and in iOS Settings.

06Notifications, Live Activities and widgets

If you allow notifications, Otto schedules local reminders on your device. On iPhone and iPad, Live Activities and widgets show a short local summary, such as a countdown, Otto’s nickname or today’s focus minutes. Their visibility is controlled by your device settings.

07Otto Pro purchases

Purchases are handled by the App Store or Google Play through your store account. We never receive your card details. The app only learns from the store whether Otto Pro is active on your account. The store’s own privacy policy applies to the payment.

08Backups you export

You can export a backup through your device’s share sheet. It includes your local collection and focus data, but not an active session or Screen Time tokens. Wherever you send that file, such as a cloud drive or a messaging app, handles it under its own terms, so please keep it somewhere you trust.

09When you email us

If you write to us, we receive your email address and whatever you include. Messages started from inside the app also include the app and system version to help us troubleshoot. They do not automatically include your focus history or Screen Time tokens. We use your message to reply, and our email provider processes it to deliver and store it. Please leave out passwords and payment details.

10Why we handle this information

Depending on where you live, we rely on one or more of these legal grounds:

  • Consent, for personalized advertising and tracking where the law requires it;
  • Legitimate interests, for funding Otto through ads, keeping it secure and stable, and preventing fraud;
  • Providing the service, for purchases and answering your requests;
  • Legal obligations, where we are required to keep or disclose information.

11Sharing and selling

We do not sell your personal information for money. Beyond the providers named in this policy, information may be disclosed where the law requires it, or to protect safety and legal rights.

Some US state laws treat sharing identifiers for personalized advertising as a “sale” or “sharing”. To opt out, use your device’s tracking or advertising ID settings and Google’s ad controls above. Google, Cloudflare and our email provider operate in several countries, so information may be processed outside the country where you live, subject to the safeguards the law requires.

12How long information is kept

Local data stays on your device until you delete it or remove the app. Google keeps AdMob and Firebase data according to its own policies and the periods listed above. We keep support emails only as long as reasonably needed to help you and to meet legal obligations. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect what we handle.

13Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information, object to or restrict its use, withdraw consent, and complain to a data protection authority. Most of Otto’s data lives only on your device, so you can delete it yourself. For anything else, email nexmindltd.support@gmail.com. Because Otto has no accounts, we may not be able to link Google’s data to you, so for that data please also use the controls described above.

14Children

Otto is not directed at children under 13, or the minimum age required in your country, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it. Parents can also switch off the Wish Clam Lagoon in Otto’s settings.

15This website

This website is delivered and protected by Cloudflare. Loading a page sends technical information such as your IP address, browser type, requested page and time, which is used to serve the page and keep it secure. The site shows no ads, sets no advertising cookies, runs no analytics, and loads its fonts from its own server. The sounds in the demo are only downloaded if you press one.

16Changes to this policy

We will update this page when Otto or its providers change, and revise the date at the top. If a change needs your consent or further notice, we will ask for it or provide it rather than relying on this page alone.
